Dear Applicant:
Thank you for applying for a Story Summit scholarship. Scholarships are available for the following in-person events and membership program:
Story Summit @ Austin Film Festival (October 29 - November 5, Austin, Texas)
Okoboji Writers' and Songwriters' Retreat
Annual Story Summit Membership (includes all classes and workshops, except for extended programs, in-person events, and mentor-led small groups)
In-person event scholarships (Austin Film Festival and Okoboji) cover lodging, meals, and all-access badges where applicable. They do not cover air travel or other transportation to and from the event.
The application fee for this is $10.00. You will be redirected to the payment page at the end of the form. This fee is non-refundable and conveys seriousness of intent. Scholarship recipients will be notified in late July 2026.
Application deadline: midnight Pacific Time, Thursday, July 31, 2026.
To apply:
Submit an essay between 200-250 words explaining why you feel you should be a recipient of this scholarship.
Upload up to five pages of a recent screenplay or literary project writing sample, as applicable.
Answer the questions, below.
All parts of the application will be considered in determining the scholarship winners, and all materials are confidential. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
The scholarship recipients will be selected based on financial need, the seriousness of their intent to make a writing life, their continuing effort to move their writing forward, and what they've done to improve their craft.
Eligibility
The scholarship is open to everyone. Each applicant must be at least 18 years old and must have participated in Story Summit activities of some kind. Scholarships cannot be exchanged for cash.
If you are applying for an event scholarship and are not able to travel to that event, please do not apply.
